10 de junho de 2010 (Leon) - parte 3 - More on Equipment

A few more comments on equipment - said i´m happy with the rain poncho from altus (atmospheric) - quite effective, however i think its a good idea next time to check how to wear it confortably with a had - the smallest size (s/m) is still big for me so the hood is a bit fiddly - i wear with my hat underneath (the columbia one eliana gave me) but i haven´t figure out yet how to make it work easily - there´s always something blocking my sight - the flap of the hood, or the brim of the hat... - i need to try it on later before i start walking again tomorrow, to make sure how i can quickly, easily and effectively adjust it on the run... because just a little detail like that can be a real nuisance! and it can cost you several wasted minutes fiddling, and it can be quite disruptive to your physical and mental rhythm,,, anyway, another hint for selminha or anyone doing the camino in the future - test your rain gear with your hat if you´re going to have one... i need one otherwise the hood is too big for my head... maybe it´s also a good idea in this case to have a hat with harder - and narrow - brim, preferably the ones with brim that point up rather than floppy or pointing down... and it´s probably better to have it water proof (goretex)... talking about water proof, as i said before my boots got really wet after a few hours... maybe when they sell water proof boots they mean for a couple of hours only, like with sun screen lotions which are water proof! ;) i don´t know, but i did meet a few people who said their shoes remained dry the whole time (not many, i have to admit)... these rare individuals said their shoes had goretex... i don´t know that made my won merryl shoes water proof (dont´think it was goretex...)... another hint: bring only long pants, don´t bother about shorts or even capri pants... i recommend long pants with detachable parts to make it shorter if desirable... 3 pairs, the third one water proof, so you can wear under the rain poncho to help protect the shoes and lower legs

  1. Hi! I like your blog and after reading it I was looking for altus poncho on internet. I asked one in Spain, the cheappest and cheapst shipping I found was Peregrinoteca! Bom Caminho!
